BMC stands forBrihanmumbai Municipal Corporation ( bmc full form ). It is also known by the Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai. It was formerly known as Municipal Corporation of Greater Bombay. BMC is India's wealthtest municipal corporation. Its annual budget is higher than some of India's smaller states.

It wascreated under the Bombay Municipal Act1888Its work includes administration of the city, civic infrastructure, and outer territory of Mumbai. It manages the city's administrative functions, as well as civic infrastructure and the outer territory of Mumbai. Trushna Viswasrao became the first female corporation officer in 2015. They are elected. They are authorized by the BMC to enforce the law and provide basic infrastructure for the citizens of the city.

Corporators are authorized by the corporation to assess its functions and to oversee matters related to finances and budget like approving contracts, distributing money, etc.

BMCHeaded by an Indian Administration Officer, (IAS).Who holds the title of Municipal Commissioner. The Corporation Council is also known to be the legislature of BMC. In 2017, more than 30 contestants were from a single Ward.

  • To register births and death and to exercise power over all cremation sites and graveyards in its jurisdiction.
  • To manage garbage collection and disposal, water supply, and disposal and treatment for sewerage. This is necessary to maintain public health and sanitation in the area.
  • To keep records of urban real estate and to enforce building norms, if necessary
  • To create and maintain parks, public spaces, and ensure coastal safety by providing lifeguards at beaches and other facilities.
